The Social Skills for Teens Group at ISN Clinic is based on the PEERS® Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills, developed at UCLA. PEERS® is a structured, evidence-based program designed to help adolescents with autism spectrum and developmental disorders build social competence in a supportive group setting.
This group is facilitated by trained clinicians and runs over six weekly 60-minute sessions. Each session focuses on one core topic, with practical tools and discussion:
-
Program introduction, group expectations and confidentiality
-
Using effective conversational skills
-
Starting and exiting peer conversations
-
Choosing appropriate friendships
-
Using humor appropriately in social settings
-
Handling disagreements and building planning skills
Sessions combine clinician-led discussion, skill practice and structured feedback. The group aims to help participants apply what they learn to real-life social situations.
