How DBT May Help with Emotional and Behavioural Challenges

DBT may support individuals to:

  • Understand and manage strong or overwhelming emotions

  • Build distress tolerance and self-soothing strategies

  • Strengthen mindfulness and present-moment awareness

  • Improve communication and interpersonal skills

  • Reduce impulsive or self-destructive behaviours

  • Navigate conflict and build more stable relationships

ISN Clinic offers diagnosis, therapy and intervention plans for free.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a psychological treatment that combines elements of cognitive behavioural therapy with mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies. Originally developed for individuals with emotion regulation difficulties, DBT has since been adapted for a range of mental health presentations.

At ISN Clinic, DBT-informed therapy is delivered by trained psychologists and may be offered as individual sessions or group-based skills training, depending on suitability.

DBT focuses on four key skill areas:

  • Mindfulness – developing awareness of thoughts, feelings and urges

  • Emotion regulation – identifying emotions and learning how to manage them

  • Distress tolerance – handling difficult situations without making them worse

  • Interpersonal effectiveness – communicating needs while maintaining relationships and self-respect

DBT may be helpful for people experiencing emotional dysregulation, interpersonal conflict, impulsive behaviours or difficulties with mood and identity.

To find out whether DBT-informed therapy may be suitable for your needs, please contact our team. We are happy to provide further information about delivery options, therapist availability and any relevant terms.
