The ISN Clinic offers evidence based group therapy programs for free

The Anxiety and Worry Group at ISN Clinic is based on the Cool Kids Anxiety Program, developed by Macquarie University. This structured, skills-based group uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) principles to support children and adolescents in learning how to manage symptoms of anxiety and worry.

The group is facilitated by trained psychologists and includes separate age-appropriate streams for:

  • Cool Kids (7–12 years) – supporting primary school-aged children

  • Cool Kids (Adolescent, 12–17 years) – supporting high school students

Each version of the group runs for six 60-minute sessions and focuses on teaching practical strategies in a supportive, interactive setting. Core components include:

  • Understanding anxiety and how it affects the body and mind

  • Identifying unhelpful thinking and replacing it with realistic alternatives

  • Using graded exposure to face feared situations gradually

  • Developing organisational and problem-solving strategies

  • Practising relaxation techniques and helpful habits

  • Encouraging parental involvement to support generalisation at home

The group setting provides a supportive space for participants to learn, share, and apply skills in a developmentally appropriate way. Parent involvement is encouraged where appropriate, particularly for younger age groups.

If you would like more information about group dates, format or whether this program may be suitable for your child or teenager, please contact our team. We are happy to discuss options and provide any relevant terms or conditions.
